VENEZUELA HAS HIGH LEVEL HUMAN RESOURCES TO SUPPORT AN EFFICIENT ALUMINIUM INDUSTRY

Much has been said about Venezuela's comparative advantages in producing aluminium, which is why Venezuela has been considered an ideal site for the construction of large-scale complex aluminium producers. Due to these conditions, during the decade of the eighties, the construction of plants was projected that would raise the installed production capacity in the country to two million tons of aluminium per year.

However, for various reasons this potential was not exploited, so many investments that could be made in Venezuela were carried out in places such as Canada, South Africa, and more recently in several countries in the Middle East.

Regardless of past mistakes made by government institutions that prevented the establishment of a world-class bauxite-alumina-aluminium integrated industry, Venezuela still has its comparative advantages to produce aluminium competitively; therefore the AlProTeS work team is working on the development of promotion plans and incentive policies to gather the necessary resources to take advantage of this potential.

But Venezuela's comparative advantages to produce aluminium go beyond the possession of abundant bauxite reserves, great hydroelectric potential, sufficient natural gas reserves, and other realities. Venezuela also has high-level technical and managerial human resources to advise potential investors interested in exploring options in Venezuela.

As an example of this capacity, we can point out that the AlProTeS team has: i) successfully held positions of Engineering, Production, Management, Board of Directors and Presidency of the companies of the aluminium industrial park of the Guayana Region in Venezuela; ii) developed a proprietary technology for aluminium production, the V-350 Cell; iii) played a leading role in achieving the highest production standards of these companies.

The AlProTeS technical team has also developed plans for the expansion of the production capacity of the current companies of the Aluminium Sector in the Guayana Region, these for the bauxite mine, the alumina plant, the aluminium smelters and their downstream facilities.

Also, and understanding the great potential of the Venezuela for the production of aluminium, as well as the growth in world demand for aluminium, the AlProTeS team has formulated two large-scale projects in locations with sufficient bauxite reserves for this purpose.

These projects contemplate the construction of integrated complexes for bauxite extraction, alumina refining, aluminium smelters and downstream companies; and due to their large scale and impact, have been considered as Mega Projects, and are called “Ciudad del Aluminio Caicara” and “Ciudad del Aluminio El Palmar”.

CONCLUSIONS.-

  • The growth in demand for aluminium worldwide requires the continuous expansion of production capacities.
  • Venezuela has significant comparative advantages for the establishment of a large-scale integrated industry of: bauxite extraction-alumina refining-aluminium reduction-downstream companies.

  • Potential investors interested in the formulation and execution of projects in Venezuela can rely on AlProTeS, a team of high-level technical and managerial professionals, to advise them assertively throughout the production chain of the aluminium industry.
  • By having a multidisciplinary team, AlProTeS has specialists to also offer specialized advice in legal, administrative, tax regime, incentive policies, environmental regulations, and in all those requests that are linked to the Venezuelan legal framework.
